The client had just completed a large extension as part of their home. Though built in the 1970s, the couple had completely refurbished the home in an elegant contemporary yet classic style. As part of the project, they wanted a high-end luxury kitchen in which their young family could cook, gather and eat - and they could entertain guests.
"We were recommended Chardome by a friend who has utilised their skills for a number of projects," says our client, Jonathan. "We were very impressed by the team's passion and level of craftmanship when we visited the showroom and workshop."
Chardome founder Valentin Chardome picks up the story. "They wanted a classic look and feel, but they also wanted to inject some modern twists to the design - as well as some specific functional items."
Updating the timeless kitchen style, we added a wine fridge, non-integrated fridge-freezer and stainless steel hood. The colour scheme is also a more contemporary style than more traditional colours and combinations - "inspired by our showroom kitchen colour scheme" adds Valentin.
A perennial challenge with entertaining is the ability to prepare food while your guests sit nearby. Our clients love to entertain, so we created a large island with informal seating at which the family and/or guests can eat before they move to the dining room.
"The quartz island is very large, 3.5 metres by 1.4 metres. This means people can sit on a stool with a glass of wine and the hosts can prepare food without being on top of each other. There's lots of space for everyone."
The client wanted lots of storage space around the oven, so we worked with them to agree on a mixture of glazed cabinets, open shelves and cabinets with doors, to break up the space and "ensure it didn't just look like a wall of cupboards." As Jonathan explains "During the design phase of our bespoke kitchen, Valentin and Jonathan Chardome were fantastic and accommodated various iterations - guiding our choices."
The stools are from Cox & Cox.
A key feature of the luxury kitchen is the walk-in pantry. "The space is U-shaped and we worked to provide shelving that maximised the space - using shelving and drawers as well as a small work surface. The pantry also has integrated lighting to provide lighting into every nook and cranny.
"The pantry is so efficient - has so much storage space - that it frees up space in the kitchen."
Jonathan finishes by saying: "When it came to fitting the kitchen, the quality of workmanship was exceptional. The quality of our finished kitchen is fantastic - the cabinetry is better than that of other well-known high-end kitchen suppliers.
"The level of service was great from inception to finished product - I cannot recommend highly enough."
